Women Of Destiny Bible Women Mentoring Women Through The Scriptures

Praise God
Before I became a born again Christian, I was very much "one of the boys" in that most of my friends were men as I seemed to get on better with them than with women. I realised after becoming a Christian, that I needed to develop my "femininity" and to relate more to women - which is why I bought this Bible. When I first saw it and looked through it, I didn't like it much as I felt it looked TOO feminine and that it wasn't much of a study bible, etc. But each time I picked it up, I became more and more struck by how beautiful it is - the purple leather cover, lettering and lovely font - not forgetting the great inspirational letters. I found myself becoming more and more drawn to this Bible. To me, this Bible has a strong spiritual "presence", for everytime I open it, it evokes everything that I believe a Christian woman should be - warm, loving, inspiring, comforting, maternal and supportive. I know that may sound a litte strange to some of you, but, thats what I sense (my other Bibles don't have the same effect). I now carry this Bible with me to work and home again because its so wonderful to have! Sisters, I truly recommend this Bible to you. God bless you all!

I loved it!
As a young reader (20), I loved the book, Women of Destiny. It was a great encouragement to me as a young lady. It showed me how God can use women just as well as men. I was struggling with knowing for sure if God had called me into the ministry. However, after reading this book and others like it and doing a lot of praying, God showed me that children and youth ministry is where he wants me to be. I want to thank all the many women who took the time to share their stories in the book. May God bless you always.

Worship His Majesty: How Praising the King of Kings Will Change Your Life
Published in Paperback by Regal Books (April, 2000)
Author: Jack W. Hayford
Average review score:

Insightful book about modern worship
First off, I must admit that I enjoy reading Jack Hayford's books. He takes a very common sense approach to the Bible, Christianity, and faith. I think that he does a better job than most other pastors of giving practical insight into Christian concepts. In this book, his focus is worship and how it can change our lives.

I enjoyed this book the most because it is a no nonsense explanation of worship. Basically, Dr. Hayford is hoping that this book will help start a reformation of worship in today's Church. Throughout the book, he tries to confront many traditional notions about worship, and its role for the believer, and the Church. In some ways, this book may challenge you, especially if you come from a very traditional denomination. I know that in my case it has made me take a hard look at my role in daily worship, and during church services.

Dr. Hayford's basic premise is that biblically based worship is the vital key to the success of any church. He goes into great detail about what worship is, and is not. Various topics he discusses include musical worship (songs), prayer, communion, and tithing. He uses various examples from the Bible (Abraham, David, Samuel, Peter, and Paul) to illustrate many of his points. Also, he tries to clarify misconceptions about worship that many believers (including myself) may have. For instance, he explains why worship is actually designed for our benefit, and not God's.

I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to find out more about worship, and how it can impact your walk with God. I think that you will find this book stimulating, and cause you to examine your own worship practices and effectiveness.

Worship His Majesty: How Praising the King of Kings Will ...
This book is great! I wonder why no one has written a review, after the time this book has spent in the market. The book took its theme from the famous song "Majesty", composed by the author himself, and tells about how worship is a two-way interaction between God and men. God is worthy of our worship, of course, but worship is not only meant for Him. God has made worship a way men can receive the blessings and fullness of life from God. The author took several significant examples from the bible, like the lives of Abraham, Moses, and David, and showed how worship had brought them to receive God's promises in their lives, despite their "humane" errors and limitations.

This book should be read by everyone who desired to know God more, and learns how he works in the lives of men through their worship. Hey, there's a whole lot of things we don't understand about worship. This book will shed some light to that. Praise God!!

Easy to Understand - Great Info!
This commentary is so much easier to read than most I have come across. Dr. Long focuses on the literary dimension of 1&2 Kings in a way that brings the entire story to life! I am using this book in my Old Testament Historical Literature class, and it is incredible! It is so exciting to read the connections between the stories in Kings and other stories in the rest of the OT; you will see Bible characters in ways you never have before! If you would like to start reading in the Old Testament and would like a commentary you can understand to help guide you through the stories - this is the book for you!

Based on the New International Version, this detailed commentary includes analysis of the major interpretations of each passage. Hebrew knowledge not necessary, but helpful. Language notes are separated. Each 'book' includes Introduction and Outline, NIV Text, Commentary Discussion including all major views, and Language notes. Emphasis is on what text meant to the people it was originally written for. Does not include practical application, as the primary goal is to fully understand what the text says and means. 1 Kings (Berit Olam Series)
Published in Hardcover by Liturgical Press (February, 1996)
Authors: Jerome T. Walsh, David W. Cotter, and Chris Franke
Average review score:

scholarly work of art
In trying to find a solid commentary on 1 Kings that delves into the intricacies and the theology of the text, one is hard-pressed to find a work that rivals Walsh's fine contribution. Walsh develops the narrative artwork of the text of 1 Kings, showing subtle nuances and insights into the Hebrew, while maintaining a very readable and engaging style. As an evangelical pastor who holds to a high view of the Scriptures, this commentary was extremely helpful. While Walsh and I would most likely disagree on the level of redacting, the process that led to the present text, and the authoritative nature of the book, he is very concerned with the final form of 1 Kings and concentrates on using the tools of narrative and literary criticism. This is an outstanding reference work for anyone who teaches or preaches from 1 Kings and in my mind is the best commentary on 1 Kings available, period!
